Method of infrared Fourier Spectroscopy is one of the most informative non-destructive profile types of core analysis. The result is a spectrum that characterizes absorption of electromagnetic radiation by individual groups of atoms in the near and mid-infrared range. One advantage of vibrational spectroscopy is a possibility to examine virtually any inorganic or organic substance in its various phases – gaseous, liquid, crystalline, or amorphous. The studies were carried out on core taken from the abnormal Bazhenov horizon (Western Siberia) encountered by the Zaozyornaya-1 stratigraphic well. Data of infrared profiling in scattered reflection mode were analysed in combination with well log, petrophysical, geochemical, lithological and mineralogical data. As a result, the possibility of dividing section a into separate clusters is shown, which can be used to select groups of samples for integrated advanced studies, identify oil saturation zones, and obtain lithological and petrophysical dataset having the required resolution of core recovery depth. Examination of rocks using IR Fourier Spectroscopy can be particularly useful in the studies of small-sized witness core samples, where destructive testing and sampling are not permitted.
