Funding: This work was carried out as part of the VNIGNI object “Studies of reservoir properties of the Bazhenov Fm deposits encountered by a stratigraphic well in the Zaozyorny area, KhMAO-Yugra” (2022–2024) funded by the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources and the Program of Strategic Academic Leadership of the Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University (PRIORITET-2030).
Zircons from the Tyumen (J2bk), Abalak (J3o-km), Akh (K1v-g), and Cherkashin (K1g-br) formation sandstones taken while drilling the Zaozernaya-1 stratigraphic well were subject to U-Pb-dating. The Tyumen and Abalak rocks have identical distribution spectra with Permian-Triassic zircons (≈ 260–240 Ma). Spectrum containing a considerable amount of Early-Middle Palaeozoic zircons as well as young Triassic-Jurassic population is typical for the rocks of the Akh formation. The Cherkashin sandstones are characterised by a main peak of Permian-Triassic zircons with a subordinate role of Early-Middle Palaeozoic zircons. The most likely provenances for Permian-Triassic zircons are felsic volcanic rocks, which are widespread in the basement of Western Siberia. Comparison of the formation age of the studied deposits with the results of the apatite fission track dating of southern folded margin of the West Siberia suggests that Early-Middle Palaeozoic rocks in the source areas was a result of active orogeny and the erosion of complexes from the Altai-Sayan and Ob-Zaisan orogenic belts. It is possible that local provenances were the main suppliers of terrigenous material at the time of accumulation of Tyumen and Abalak formations. Whereas, formation of Akh and Cherkashin series involved both local and remote provenances.
