In the western part of the Lena-Tungussky petroleum province, the variety and complexity of geological settings result in the fact that traditional oil and gas exploration methods at the regional stage do not always ensure proper identification of oil and gas promising zones, nor do they guarantee adequate preparation of exploration targets for deep drilling and reserve evaluation during exploration, appraisal, and prospecting stages in discovered fields. The Bakhtinsky mega-uplift and adjacent areas of the Kureisky syneclise undoubtedly represent one of the most challenging territories in terms of subsurface conditions. The heterogeneity of the sedimentary cover of the platform, including hydrocarbon plays, poses a significant challenge for efficient application of virtually all geological and geophysical methods. This heterogeneity results from the fact that the section is saturated with intrusive trap bodies of varying morphological types in a chaotic way. In this context, the reliability of preparations for deep drilling and the success of exploratory drilling remain very low to date, failing to provide the necessary increase in reserves to outpace production. The solution to this problem lies in the optimal and correct integration of a particular set of methods, which is tailored to the specific geological conditions of each specific territory. In conjunction with seismic exploration, it seems appropriate for the Bakhtinsky mega-uplift and similar regions to use the method of drilling core wells with gas core sampling, which allows mapping the ranges of hydrocarbon gas dispersion from oil and gas deposits in the zone of geochemical prospecting. The results of these studies in the western part of the mega-uplift have identified new large oil and gas promising zones, which are a priority for hydrocarbon geological exploration.
