Funding: The paper was prepared within the framework of the VNIGNI State Assignment No. 6 “Geology: Revival of a Legend” dated 11.01.22 (subject “Regional seismic exploration within the Karabashsky 5 and 7 sites” and “Enhancement of inflow to improve the filtration-capacity properties and production potential of Bazhenovsky deposits encountered by the stratigraphic well in the Zaozerny area, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra” dated December” dated 30.12.2022, No. 049-00003-23-00).
The results of sedimentation system modelling of Jurassic deposits in Karabashsky zone, 2D CDP seismic data, and analysis of data from Zaozyornaya-1 structural well were used to update geological structure of the study area. The work included building lithological and sedimentation models, paleogeography maps, and maps of HC stratigraphic trap occurrence in Jurassic deposits of Karabashsky zone (south-western part of Western Siberia). Core studies of samples taken from Zaozyornaya-1 structural well provided the basis for updating and further detailing the conditions of terrigenous Jurassic deposit formation. During the Bajocian-Bathonian time, the boundary between continental and marine sedimentation was located in the north-eastern part of the Karabashsky zone. The zone neighbouring to the boundary represented a tidal plain locally evolving into deltas developed on a shallow shelf. Continental depositional settings persisted in the western and south-western parts of the area. Zones of reservoir occurrence are associated with channel and floodplain facies of paleo-rivers in alluvial plain, facies zones of proximal and middle parts of marine delta. Tyumensky Fm (Bajocian Stage) was deposited in the above-water and delta-front settings, as well as in coastal lacustrine and swamp facies. In addition to deltaic deposits, coastal-marine and mouth-bar sand bodies are also typical of the upper part of the Tyumensky Fm (Bathonian Stage). Abalaksky Fm (and its facies analogue – the upper part of the Vogulkinsky series) of the Upper Jurassic Georgievsky Horizon was formed during a major transgression, when argillaceous sediments were predominantly accumulated under marine conditions. Reservoirs in the Upper Jurassic deposits (Tutleimsksy, Danilovsky formations) were formed in the zones of coastal-marine facies, beaches, and alongshore bars. Detailed depositional models of the Jurassic Play in the Karabashsky zone (the south-western part of the West Siberian Petroleum Platform) are of interest and can be used in planning geological exploration of unallocated subsoil areas, optimizing the licensing process, and supporting further oil and gas field exploration.
