In recent years, geological exploration has been predominantly associated with unconventional reservoirs; nevertheless, a number of unresolved issues remain in the study of conventional reservoirs. Among these issues is the need to account for and predict variations in reservoir properties to enhance the effectiveness of targeted exploration activities. The lithology, post-sedimentary alterations, and variability in reservoir properties of the productive formations reflect geological heterogeneity and may result from various processes. The authors analysed the variability of carbonate rocks at different levels of material organization. The article demonstrates and substantiates the relationship between the lithological features of carbonate rocks, porosity and permeability, and structural elements of different genesis (tectonic, tectonic and depositional, and depositional) with the aim of establishing their distribution patterns for predicting petroleum potential of the Bashkirian deposits in the south of the Samara Region. As a result, a predominant correlation has been established between variations of carbonate rock properties and the Lower Hercynian tectonic structures, which is indicative of these structures activation along the rifts of the Archean-Proterozoic formation in the Bashkirian and post-Bashkirian time (Middle-Late Hercynian and Alpine tectogenesis phases) and the inherited nature of the movement of the Basement blocks.
