This article presents a geological interpretation of the results of dynamic and time sections of regional seismic exploration studies conducted in 2018-2019 by the Exploration Geophysics Department (EGD) of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). Particular attention is focused on the mineralogical composition of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic complex, expressed in seismic sections. The authors note that two characteristic tectonic features can be identified in these sections. First, the geological and tectonic architecture includes Mesozoic, Paleogene, and Miocene deposits, overlain by the relatively quiet folding of the Pliocene-Quaternary sedimentary complex. All sections clearly demonstrate a complete discrepancy between the tectonic structure of the Mesozoic and the overlying Cenozoic deposits. Second, beginning in the Pliocene and Maypop periods, the nature of the folding changes dramatically. Mesozoic deposits (Cretaceous, Jurassic) are distinguished in different depth intervals and are represented by rocks with a predominance of igneous origin. Upper Cretaceous (K2) deposits mainly consist of terrigenous-clayey and volcanic lithofacies, and were encountered in the Uzuntyap area in the study area. Lower Cretaceous (K1) deposits are also expressed in two lithofacies and were uncovered by boreholes in the Middle Mugan, Shorsulu, Saatly, Uzuntyap, and Bilasuvar areas. A brief mineralogical and stratigraphic analysis of the Jurassic and Cretaceous deposits revealed that the Mesozoic complex is dominated by rocks of igneous formation, which is clearly visible in the sections. The present studies are devoted to the analysis of the formation and development conditions reflected in the sections of masses of complex deposits with a predominance of igneous composition (Cretaceous-Jurassic deposits).
